Best Beg You Will Ever Have

This bag went through 6 hard years of rucking both stateside and abroad. I have loaded this thing absolutely down with up to 80 pounds of gear at a time had flashlights, gallons of water hanging off the side and many other things and never once had a problem from it. There was a few times where the seams of the exterior patches ripped off but a 10 minute stitch and I used it for years after with no issues. It was not until yesterday where I again loaded it down to bursting when I finally had a zipper rip from the seam. This backpack is one you will have once and then again and again for life. There is no better bang for your buck.

Initial Observations

It's difficult for me to find a "GO" bag that I really like. This one hits most of the highlights I look for in a go bag.

I am an organization freak. I love the four main pockets and the two sets of internal pockets. This is an upgrade from my original bag, as it weighs about 4 pounds without anything in it. This pack is a little bit lighter than what it is replacing. Yet it seems to have enough room to keep everything inside the bag save only the necessities like a compass and water. The shoulder pads seem soft enough that I should be able to wear them for a while before slipping them off and resting my shoulders. The zippers do not need coaxing around the corners and all the way up without holding the bag's bottom to zip it.

My only complaint, if you can call it that, is that the cumberbund belt has no padding like for better quality bags.

More to come in the future, as I have to use it for a bit first.

10 years and counting

Bought this bag in 2012 when I got to my first duty station. It's survived a deployment, camping, hiking, countless vacations filled to the brim with items, even some light rock climbing. Currently, I use it as my daily bag to carry equipment around for my job. My department liked the bag so much that they bought one of these specifically for carrying shared/spare equipment (I work in IT, so there's lots of small tools, extra cables, the occasional SFF computer that fits in these, etc., etc.). I cannot recommend this bag enough. When it finally wears out I plan on immediately buying another. I generally keep my things (mostly) clean, and with some gentle care after each big adventure this thing still looks almost as immaculate as the day I bought it. Zippers still go like a champ, straps still tighten down strong, no popped stitches. Half the time I'm tempted to buy another one just to have on hand for the day this does finally give out because it's been such a trooper and I use it so much. S.O.C. has a customer for life because of this bag.

the standard for EDC backpack for every day use

Great bag, and the standard. Easy to use and load. They take a beating. Great for airline carry on as long as you don't fully load to capacity.

12 Years of Service

I bought this backpack in July 2010, right after graduating basic training and getting to tech school. It has served me incredibly well over the past twelve years, including multiple PCSs, vacations, school, and a trip to the Middle East. My dog chewed off the top carry handle in 2016, and it finally developed a hole along the bottom through wear and tear of the canvas material this past year. Cannot recommend this bag enough as a versatile backpack/carry-on bag for all your basic travel and school needs.
